Abhishek Sharma hit the fastest century by an Indian in T20 internationals, reaching 100 off 30 balls against Afghanistan in Delhi.
India opener Abhishek Sharma set a major record during the third T20 international against Afghanistan. In the match underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Abhishek scored a century in just 30 balls. The innings broke a record that had stood in Rohit Sharma's name for nearly 9 years. Abhishek Sharma is now the Indian batter with the fastest century in T20 international cricket. The record was previously held by Rohit Sharma, who had scored a century in 35 balls against Sri Lanka in Indore in 2017.
Abhishek did not rush at the start of his innings. In Fazalhaq Farooqi's first over, he played out a few balls carefully before opening his account with a four. After that, he took apart the Afghanistan bowlers, setting one big record after another. He brought up his half-century in just 16 balls, giving India's innings a strong start. He then added another 50 runs in just 14 more balls to complete his century and set a new record.
Among Indian batters, Abhishek Sharma now leads the list of fastest centuries in T20 international history with his 30-ball century against Afghanistan. He is followed by Rohit Sharma with 35 balls (against Sri Lanka), Abhishek Sharma again with 37 balls (against England), and Sanju Samson with 40 balls (against Bangladesh). Considering all countries, this is the third-fastest century in T20 international cricket. Sahil Chauhan (Estonia) leads that list with a century in 27 balls, followed by Mohammad Fahad (Turkey) in 29 balls, with Abhishek Sharma third at 30 balls. John Nicol Loftie-Eaton (Namibia), Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe) and Finn Allen (South Africa) all follow with centuries in 33 balls.
Despite setting this historic record for India, Abhishek could not stay at the crease for long. Rashid Khan dismissed him. Abhishek's innings ended at 108 runs. He built the innings off just 34 balls, including 9 fours and as many as 11 sixes. Abhishek Sharma also holds the record for the most sixes by an Indian batter in a T20 international innings, having hit 13 sixes against England in 2025.
