Police in the Khaparkheda area of Nagpur have carried out a major operation against drug smuggling, catching a man red-handed with ganja. Police recovered 464.850 grams of ganja, a mobile phone and a Honda Activa from the accused. According to police, the total seized material is valued at around Rs 75,000.

Police received information through the Zone 6 squad that a man was moving around suspiciously in the Khaparkheda police station area. Acting on this tip, a police team swiftly reached the spot to check the suspect, who was standing under a street light in front of the Ganesh temple on Chanakapur-Shillewada Basti Road.

On checking, police found the accused, Shailesh Ramlal Suryavanshi (44), a resident of Ward No. 2, Omnagar, Chanakapur, Khaparkheda, standing there with a black Honda Activa bearing registration number MH-49-CE-5705. When police searched the vehicle in the presence of panchas, they found a transparent plastic bag in the dickey containing a strong-smelling green-black plant substance. Initial examination confirmed it was ganja.

Police weighed the seized material on an electronic scale, and it came to 464.850 grams including packing and seal material, estimated to be worth around Rs 5,000. In addition, a POCO mobile phone belonging to the accused and the Honda Activa used to carry the ganja were also seized.

During questioning, the accused told police he had obtained the ganja from Ayub Chhuttan Siddiqui (47), who lives near Hanuman temple, Chanakapur, Khaparkheda. Police are now investigating this second person's role and other aspects related to the supply of the ganja.

In all, police seized property worth around Rs 75,000 in this operation, comprising ganja worth Rs 5,000, a POCO mobile phone worth around Rs 10,000 and a Honda Activa valued at around Rs 60,000.

A case has been registered against the accused at Khaparkheda police station under Sections 8(b), 20(b)(ii)(c) and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985, and an investigation has been launched. Police are gathering information on the actual source of the ganja and others linked to it.
