Nagpur : The Nagpur City Police on Thursday observed Sadbhavana Day at Police Bhavan to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi, with senior police officers and personnel taking a pledge to uphold national unity, peace and communal harmony.
The programme was organised at 11 am on the ground floor of Police Bhavan in the presence of Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil. The day is observed across the country every year on August 20, Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary, with the objective of promoting national integration, peace, harmony and a spirit of brotherhood among people belonging to different religions and communities.
During the programme, Commissioner Nangre Patil administered the national integration pledge to all those present. The pledge emphasised the importance of maintaining unity, peace and harmony and strengthening the bonds of brotherhood among people of different faiths and communities.
The programme subsequently turned into a solemn tribute to Assistant Police Inspector Dnyaneshwar Zhol, who was serving in the application branch of the Police Commissioner’s office and died prematurely.
Commissioner Nangre Patil paid floral tribute to Zhol by offering a wreath at his photograph. Senior police officers and other personnel present at the programme also offered flowers and paid their respects.
The gathering observed a two-minute silence in memory of the deceased officer.
Colleagues who had worked closely with Zhol recalled his warm and affectionate nature, dedication to duty and commitment to his responsibilities. The Public Relations Officer of the Police Commissioner’s office also shared memories of the late officer and paid tribute to his contribution and professional commitment.
The occasion thus combined the message of communal harmony associated with Sadbhavana Day with a deeply emotional tribute to a colleague who had served in the Nagpur City Police.
Among those present at the programme were Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajendra Dabhade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Deepak Agrawal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Ramesh Dhumal and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Human Resources) Sunita Meshram.
Police Inspectors, police personnel, administrative officers, employees and ministerial staff from various branches of the Nagpur Police Commissioner’s office also attended the programme.
The annual observance of Sadbhavana Day is aimed at reinforcing the values of national unity, tolerance and communal harmony and encouraging people to work towards maintaining peace and brotherhood across society.
