Nagpur: Thieves targeted the locked house of a retired teacher in Nagpur’s Dharampeth area and allegedly escaped with nearly Rs 7 lakh in cash, triggering a police investigation. CCTV footage showing the suspected burglars has been obtained, and police are working to identify and track them down.
The burglary took place at a house located in Lane No. 4 off VIP Road in Dharampeth, where retired teacher Rehana Begum Sheikh lives with her family.
According to police, Rehana and her family locked the house and left for Hingna on Sunday morning to visit a relative. They stayed there overnight and returned home on Monday morning.
On reaching the house, the family found the belongings scattered and realised that the premises had been broken into. Preliminary investigation revealed that unidentified thieves had allegedly forced open the house’s lock during the night and entered the premises.
The burglars reportedly searched the house and fled with around Rs 7 lakh in cash.
After receiving information about the burglary, Sitabuldi Police reached the spot and began investigating. Officers examined the premises and surrounding area and collected CCTV footage believed to have captured the movements of the suspects.
Police are now analysing the footage to establish the identities of the accused and trace their whereabouts. Further investigation is underway to determine how the burglars identified the house and whether they were involved in similar thefts in the area.
