Nagpur : The Press Photographers and News Cameramen Welfare Association, Nagpur, will organise a special programme on Wednesday, August 19, to mark World Photography Day, bringing together photojournalists, press photographers and news cameramen from across the city.
The programme will be held at 7.30 am at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Stadium, Police Line Takli. A special football match for media photographers and news cameramen has been planned as the highlight of the event.
The initiative aims to provide professionals working behind the camera with an opportunity to come together outside their regular work environment, strengthen professional camaraderie and celebrate their contribution to journalism.
Organisers said photographs and videos have become an integral part of news reporting, particularly in the digital age. While written reports provide context and details, photographs and visuals often capture the immediate impact of an event and convey a story within seconds.
Photojournalists and news cameramen frequently work in challenging circumstances to document incidents, public events, social issues and major developments. In many cases, a single photograph can capture the essence of an event more powerfully than several paragraphs of text.
The World Photography Day programme will therefore also underline the importance of photojournalism and visual journalism and acknowledge the contribution of professionals who document events through their cameras.
Dr Saurabh Agrawal, director of Asha Hospital, and Jaihari Singh, member of the Maharashtra BJP State Council, will be the chief guests at the programme.
Social workers Narendra Jichkar and Naresh Barde, Police Inspector Hridaynarayan Yadav and Shakeel Babu are also extending support to the event.
The organisers have invited photojournalists, press photographers, news cameramen, media representatives and photography enthusiasts from Nagpur to attend the programme in large numbers.
They said World Photography Day is not merely an occasion to celebrate photographs but also an opportunity to recognise the people behind the lens who document society’s events, struggles, achievements and history.
The August 19 programme is intended to celebrate this contribution while providing media professionals an opportunity to interact, participate in a sporting activity and strengthen their bonds beyond the newsroom and field assignments.
