Woman police sub-inspector accused of slapping student over road rage incident; she files complaint accusing student of assaulting her

A woman police sub-inspector of the K.R. Puram Traffic Police Station has been accused of assaulting a college student during a heated argument near Bhattarahalli Signal over a road rage incident on August 12.

A video purportedly showing the officer dragging a youth by his collar and slapping him has gone viral on social media, triggering calls for disciplinary action.

The incident reportedly occurred on the Bhattarahalli-K.R. Puram road around 8.30 a.m.

According to the complaint lodged by sub-inspector Nayana D., she was on traffic duty near the OMR Road-Bhattarahalli Junction when she noticed two persons arguing on the road.

The complaint stated that when Nayana questioned one of the men, identified as Hemant, he allegedly abused her, caught hold of her uniform and assaulted her. Other police personnel on duty, including Basana Gowda and an assistant sub-inspector, reportedly reached the spot and attempted to stop the altercation.

According to the police complaint, Hemant allegedly called another person, Rahul, to the spot. Nayana has alleged that Rahul also misbehaved with her and that Hemant and others used abusive and threatening language.

The complaint further alleged that when the officer later went to the K.R. Puram government hospital for treatment and to lodge a complaint, Hemant allegedly attempted to prevent her from proceeding.

Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media purportedly shows Nayana confronting a man, holding him by his collar and slapping him during the argument. Local reports identify the man as Rahul, a college student who had allegedly intervened when Hemant and another motorist were arguing.

The video has sparked criticism, with members of the public questioning whether the officer used excessive force while handling the dispute. There are also allegations that the student’s mobile phone was seized and damaged during the incident.

The allegations made by both sides are expected to be examined as part of the investigation. The viral video and other available evidence could also be considered by the police while determining the circumstances leading to the confrontation.
