Nagpur Fisheries Department Raids 11 Ponds, Destroys 36 Tonnes of Banned Thai Mangur

Nagpur: The Fisheries Department has intensified its crackdown on the illegal farming of banned Thai Mangur, destroying more than 36 tonnes of the fish recovered from 11 ponds in Chicholi-Mahadula area of Parshivni taluka, Nagpur district .

Officials identified the ponds using Google mapping and subsequently verified information about illegal Thai Mangur farming and sale through dummy customers before launching the raids.

A team led by Assistant Commissioner Shubham Komrewar , along with 25 local fishermen, carried out the operation. Using fishing nets, the team removed more than 36 tonnes of Thai Mangur from the 11 ponds. The recovered fish was subsequently buried in pits and destroyed.

Google Mapping Used to Identify Illegal Fish Farms

According to the Fisheries Department, officials first used Google mapping to locate suspected ponds. Dummy customers were then used to verify reports of illegal farming and the sale of Thai Mangur before action was initiated.

Following verification, raids were conducted at the identified locations. A complaint has reportedly been submitted seeking action against farm owner Shakeel Khan Abdul Salam Khan in connection with the illegal farming of the banned fish.

51 Tonnes of Thai Mangur Destroyed in Three Months

The latest action is part of a broader campaign against illegal Thai Mangur farming in the Nagpur region. Fisheries Department officials said approximately 51 tonnes of the banned fish have been destroyed during enforcement operations over the past three months .

The seizure and destruction of more than 36 tonnes in the Parshivni area is among the department’s largest recent actions against illegal Thai Mangur farming. Officials said monitoring of ponds and suspected illegal fish-farming sites will continue across Nagpur district.
