Shivamogga police apprehended Raghavendra, alias Apple Raghu, for a brutal assault. He allegedly attacked Manjunath with an iron rod, causing severe injuries. A viral video showed Raghu beating Manjunath on the road. Manjunath sustained serious injuries and is receiving hospital treatment. Police are investigating the motive and any prior disputes between the individuals.
SHIVAMOGGA: Shivamogga district police arrested one person following a brutal assault on a man with an iron rod near Avuka Circle, close to Garthikere village in Hosanagara taluk.
Raghavendra, alias ‘Apple Raghu’, allegedly launched a violent attack on a local resident identified as Manjunath. Armed with an iron rod, Raghu allegedly repeatedly struck Manjunath, leaving him with severe injuries to his legs and body.
A 1-minute 26-second video of the incident went viral on social media, sparking public outrage. In the footage captured by onlookers, Raghu can be seen allegedly beating Manjunath while he lay helpless in the middle of the road.
After allegedly fracturing his limbs, Raghu placed his foot on Manjunath’s head before dragging him towards the side of the road, police said.
Following the circulation of the viral video, a police team launched a manhunt and apprehended Raghu, police said.
“The accused has been taken into custody, and a case has been registered. We are investigating the motive behind the attack and whether there was a prior dispute between the two individuals,” Shivamogga SP B Nikhil said.
Manjunath sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a private hospital in Shivamogga, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
