Nagpur : A 66-year-old fruit vendor sustained a fractured leg after he was allegedly assaulted by two men with a wooden stick in the Shantinagar police station area. Police have arrested one of the accused, while a search is underway to trace his accomplice.
The incident took place at around 10 pm on August 15 near Jhopda Hotel at Dalalpura Chowk.
The victim, Sheikh Munna Sheikh Sikandar (66), is a resident of Dalalpura and earns his livelihood by selling fruits.
According to police, Munna was walking through the area when two men, identified as Jammu Sheikh Sikandar and Saif Ali Akhtar Ali Akhtar alias Shekhu, allegedly intercepted him.
The accused allegedly questioned the elderly man over claims that he had been speaking ill of them while passing through the locality. The argument soon escalated, following which Jammu Sheikh allegedly picked up a wooden stick and struck Munna on his left leg.
The elderly fruit vendor collapsed after the assault and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Doctors later confirmed that he had suffered a fracture to his left leg.
Based on the victim’s complaint, Shantinagar police registered a case against the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police have arrested Jammu Sheikh Sikandar, while efforts are underway to apprehend the co-accused, Saif Ali Akhtar alias Shekhu, who is absconding.
Further investigation is in progress to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the role of each accused in the assault.
