Nagpur: In a swift breakthrough, Khaparkheda Police have cracked a robbery case within six hours of its occurrence, arresting four accused and taking a juvenile in conflict with law into custody. Police recovered the entire stolen property, valued at around Rs 2.96 lakh, including cash, a gold chain and a mobile phone.
The robbery took place around 6.10 pm on August 23 near Bina village on the Bina Sangam Road under the jurisdiction of Khaparkheda Police Station.
The complainant, Aman Trilochandas Dubey, 32, a resident of Pivali Nadi near Dharmaraj High School, Mahabaleshwar Nagar, Kamptee Road, Yashodhara Nagar, was returning home with his friend Lakhan Badal Seth, 25, and two female friends. They were travelling on two two-wheelers after visiting Bina Sangam.
As they reached near Bina village, three men standing beside a motorcycle allegedly stopped their two-wheelers. The suspects reportedly abused Dubey and threatened him with a knife before forcibly snatching Rs 49,800 in cash, a gold chain and a mobile phone. The total value of the stolen property was estimated at Rs 2.96 lakh. The accused then allegedly fled from the spot on their motorcycle.
Dubey subsequently approached Khaparkheda Police Station, following which a case was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Maharashtra Police Act.
Police grow suspicious of complainant’s friend
Considering the seriousness of the robbery, police began questioning the people who were accompanying Dubey at the time of the incident. Investigators noticed that his friend Lakhan Seth was giving evasive and contradictory answers.
Police examined Seth’s mobile phone, leading to a crucial breakthrough. Investigators reportedly found WhatsApp exchanges showing that Seth had sent Dubey’s photograph and location to one of his associates shortly before the robbery.
A technical investigation subsequently revealed that Seth had allegedly conspired with his associates to target Dubey and facilitate the robbery.
Gang busted, entire loot recovered
Police identified the other accused as Saksham Sushant Dongre, 20, a resident of Pivali Nadi; Asif Mohammed Mustaqeem Ali, 19, of Radhakrishna Colony, Bhilgaon, Kamptee; and Bhushan Sunil Kamble, 24, of Balaji Nagar, Bhilgaon. A juvenile in conflict with law was also allegedly involved in the crime.
All four accused were taken into custody, while the juvenile was apprehended and questioned. During interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted their involvement in the robbery. Police subsequently recovered the entire stolen property.
The four adult accused were arrested within six hours of the robbery, enabling Khaparkheda Police to solve the case swiftly.
Further investigation is underway to determine whether the gang was involved in any other similar offences and to establish the exact role played by each accused.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (North Division) Vinita Sahu, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 6) Ramesh Dhumal and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kamptee Division) Ankush Khedkar.
The police team involved in the operation included Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Buwa, Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Yadav, Police Sub-Inspector Avinash Nikalkaje, Amol Patil, and other personnel.
