Bengaluru: Namma Metro inducts 15th Yellow Line train, peak-hour services down to six minutes

Nearly a year after the inauguration of Namma Metro's Yellow Line, the final trainset supplied by Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. (TRSL) was inducted into service on Saturday, completing the corridor's full fleet of 15 trainsets by the TRSL.

The induction of the final six-coach train is expected to significantly improve operations on the 19.75-km corridor connecting R.V. Road and Bommasandra. With the commissioning of 15 trainsets, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has begun operating trains at a peak-hour frequency of six minutes.

The final trainset, manufactured at the TRSL's facility near Kolkata, arrived at the Hebbagodi depot in the end of July. Following the completion of mandatory tests and inspections, the train was formally inducted into service on Saturday.

A BMRCL official said that the availability of the complete fleet would enhance the reliability of services and help meet increasing passenger demand. According to the official, 13 of the 15 trainsets will be deployed for regular passenger operations, while the remaining two will be maintained as reserve stock.

“The reserve trains will be used to ensure uninterrupted services during scheduled maintenance, emergencies and unforeseen technical issues,” the official added.

With the completion of the Yellow Line order, the TRSL will now focus on manufacturing and supplying 18 additional trainsets for Namma Metro's Purple and Green lines under a separate contract.
