Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) suspended a senior health inspector for allegedly accepting a bribe from a salon owner in Yelahanka in connection with trade licence-related work.
Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) suspended a senior health inspector for allegedly accepting a bribe from a salon owner in Yelahanka in connection with trade licence-related work. Rais Ahmed Aziz Mianavar from Yelahanka division was suspended with immediate effect under Rule 10(1)(a) of Karnataka Civil Services (CCA) Rules, 1957.
According to the order, the corporation received a complaint alleging that Rais Ahmed had demanded and accepted money from a hair salon owner in connection with the business’s trade licence and a health department inspection. Sources said Rais Ahmed fainted while he was caught taking bribe.
The official, however, denied taking any illegal money from the salon owner.
A video purportedly showing the alleged bribe-taking surfaced on social media on Aug 12. Following this, the BNCC health officer (public health) submitted a report recommending disciplinary action against the official.
The suspension order said the alleged conduct amounted to serious dereliction of duty and violated Karnataka Government Servants’ Conduct Rules. A departmental inquiry has been kept pending against the official.
During the suspension, Rais Ahmed will be entitled to a subsistence allowance under the Karnataka Civil Services Rules and cannot leave the headquarters without prior permission.
