NAGPUR: Five people have been arrested for allegedly attempting to kill 42-year-old Sheikh Akbar alias Bhuru by deliberately ramming him with a four-wheeler in the Sonegaon police station area.
The incident took place at around 11.30 pm on August 11 near Hotel Memories in the Saumelwada Chowk area along Wardha Road. Akbar sustained serious injuries after being hit by the vehicle, following which the accused allegedly fled the spot.
Acting on the seriousness of the incident, Crime Branch Team 2 examined CCTV footage from the area and conducted a technical investigation. Based on the investigation and information received from confidential sources, police identified the suspects and found that Akbar had an old dispute with the accused.
Police allege that the accused had conspired to attack Akbar due to the longstanding enmity and subsequently used the vehicle to ram him.
The arrested accused have been identified as Shahbaz Khan alias Billa, Amir Sheikh, Mohammed Sahil Ansari, Taufiq Sheikh and Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Salim.
Another accused, Sheikh Mohsin alias Baba Tiger Sheikh Musa, is absconding and police teams are searching for him.
Based on information obtained during interrogation and the technical investigation, police have seized the jeep allegedly used in the crime, valued at around ₹15 lakh.
A case has been registered at Sonegaon Police Station under relevant sections of law. Further investigation is underway, including efforts to trace the absconding accused and determine other details related to the attack.
