Nagpur : An Independence Day family outing ended in heartbreak when a seven-year-old boy drowned in the swimming pool of a water park in Katol taluka of Nagpur district on Saturday. Police have registered a case against the owner and manager of the facility, alleging negligence and inadequate safety arrangements.
The deceased has been identified as Abhinandan Kamlesh Durjanlal Nagarwade (7), a resident of Sandesh City, Jamtha.
According to Kondhali police, Abhinandan had accompanied his parents, sibling and a group of family friends to Ambrosiaa Metropark in the Wai area to celebrate Independence Day. After arriving at the park, the family changed into swimming attire and headed towards the pool.
Police said that while the family was at the swimming pool, they suddenly noticed that Abhinandan had been pulled out of the water. He was found unconscious, triggering panic among family members and other visitors.
The child was immediately rushed to the Primary Health Centre at Katol, where doctors examined him and declared him dead.
A preliminary police inquiry has raised serious concerns over the safety measures at the water park. Investigators suspect that the mandatory safety arrangements were either inadequate or absent at the time of the incident.
“Initial findings indicate that essential safety measures were not in place. The presence of a trained lifeguard also appears to have been lacking,” a police officer said.
Based on the preliminary investigation, Kondhali police have registered a case against Naresh Ganpatrao Paonikar (45), owner of Ambrosiaa Metropark, and Sunil Vasantrao Bhoyar (31), the park’s manager and a resident of Kondasavari village in Katol taluka.
The case has been registered under Sections 106(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing death by negligence.
Police said the management of any recreational facility has a legal responsibility to ensure the safety of visitors, particularly children, by providing adequate safeguards, trained personnel and emergency response systems.
Authorities are also examining whether the water park complied with all mandatory licensing and operational safety norms. In view of the incident, police have initiated a proposal to revoke the licence of Ambrosiaa Metropark.
Further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the child’s death and to establish whether additional lapses on the part of the management contributed to the tragedy.
