Youth attacked with knife after asking armed man ‘whom do you want to kill?’

Nagpur: A seemingly simple question ended in a violent knife attack in Nagpur’s Kapil Nagar area after a youth allegedly asked an armed man whom he intended to kill. The accused reportedly lost his temper and attacked the youth with a knife, leaving him seriously injured.

The incident occurred late at night in the MHADA quarters area on Nari Road, where the accused was allegedly moving around with a weapon and loudly declaring that he would kill someone.

The accused has been identified as Kirti Raj alias Raj Hedge, 18, who, according to police, has a criminal history. He was reportedly arrested in connection with a murder case registered at Yashodhara Nagar Police Station in 2024 and had been released from jail only about a week ago.

According to the complaint, Kirti Raj reached the MHADA quarters on Nari Road and began shouting while holding a weapon, allegedly saying that he would kill someone that day.

At that point, Ashwini William Francis approached him and asked whom he intended to kill. Police said the question angered the accused, who allegedly attacked Ashwini with a knife.

Ashwini sustained serious injuries in the assault and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Following information about the attack, Kapil Nagar Police launched an immediate operation and arrested Kirti Raj. Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the assault and are also examining the accused’s previous criminal record.
