Nagpur: The Nagpur City Police organised the ‘Aamchi Shala – Aamchi Suraksha’ (Our School – Our Safety) programme on Saturday, August 22, 2026, focusing on the safety and well-being of students across schools and colleges in Nagpur.
The programme was held at the Auditorium Hall of Police Bhavan, Civil Lines, Nagpur, under the chairmanship of Nagpur City Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil. School and college principals, headmasters, administrators and security officers from educational institutions across the city attended the programme.
The initiative focused on key issues affecting student safety, including traffic awareness, compliance with road safety rules, sexual abuse prevention, POCSO awareness, drug abuse, cyber safety and security within school and college premises.
Additional Commissioner of Police Vinita Shahu highlighted the need for special attention to the safety of girls. She briefed participants about crimes against girls, preventive measures and relevant legal provisions.
She also explained the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, stressing that students are minors and educational institutions must understand their legal responsibilities when dealing with offences involving children.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Aditya Mirkhelkar (Traffic) addressed participants on student transportation and school bus safety, explaining important legal and safety requirements for transporting schoolchildren.

DCP Deepak Agrawal (Crime) spoke about cyber security and the need to protect students from online threats and cybercrime.
Meanwhile, Sandeep Pakhale (Special Branch) briefed school authorities about the ‘Police Didi’ and ‘Police Kaka’ initiatives, measures to prevent sexual incidents on school premises and the importance of having a Four-Step Evacuation Plan for emergencies.
Addressing the gathering, Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil stressed the importance of developing a friendly and open relationship between school authorities, teachers and students.
He said CCTV cameras installed on school premises should not be used merely to check footage after an incident occurs. Instead, daily monitoring of CCTV systems should be made a regular security practice, with security officers taking personal responsibility for the monitoring process.
Nangare Patil also appealed to citizens to cooperate with the police and contribute to public safety whenever possible.
An interactive session was also held with education officials, principals, headmasters and school security officers. Participants raised issues and challenges related to student safety, following which police officials suggested appropriate preventive measures.
Senior police officers, education officials, municipal education officials, principals of colleges, school headmasters and security officers attended the programme in large numbers.
The programme was conducted by PSI Poonam Korde, while Additional Commissioner of Police Rajendra Dabhade delivered the vote of thanks.
