Nagpur: The Anti-Narcotics Squad of the Nagpur Police has busted an alleged drug trafficking operation in the Sadar police station limits, seizing 53 grams of MD (mephedrone) powder worth around Rs 5.30 lakh and arresting two persons. A third accused managed to escape and is being searched for.

Acting on information about suspicious activities, the Anti-Narcotics Squad laid a trap early in the morning on the service road near the closed gate of Bungalow No. 7/12 in the Sadar Cantonment area.

During the operation, police detained Sandesh Moon and Sharik Khokar and allegedly recovered 53 grams of MD powder from their possession. The seized narcotic substance is estimated to be worth Rs 5.30 lakh.

Police also seized three mobile phones and a car valued at around Rs 9 lakh from the accused. The total value of the property seized in the operation has been estimated at approximately Rs 17 lakh.

During the investigation, police found that accused Sandesh Moon had previously been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Sakkardara and Pratap Nagar police stations.

A case has been registered at Sadar Police Station under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. Police are now investigating the source of the MD and its intended destination to trace the wider network involved in the alleged drug trade.

The third accused, Waris Ansari, fled from the spot and remains absconding. Police teams are conducting searches to trace and apprehend him.

Investigators are also examining the role of other persons who may be linked to the drug supply chain.
